FAQ

Platform Basics

Q: What is Libera?

Libera is a professional on-chain prediction market built on Base. You trade binary outcomes (UP/DOWN) on real-world price movements. It's non-custodial with no KYC required, featuring a professional CLOB and advanced order types that institutional traders expect.

Q: How is this different from other prediction markets?

Most prediction markets use AMM pools with basic mobile-first UIs designed for casual betting. Libera is a desktop-first trading terminal with TradingView charts and live orderbook depth visualization. We offer a professional CLOB with 8 advanced order types including Market, Limit, Stop Market, Stop Limit, Take Market, Take Limit, Scale, and TWAP orders. Real-time updates provide sub-second latency for prices, balances, and positions. Granular timeframes range from 15-minute to monthly markets. Our market discovery engine filters by volume, volatility, expiry, and liquidity. Wallet discovery and leaderboards help you find and follow top traders. AI-powered market making ensures 6-8% spreads versus 15-30% elsewhere. The portfolio suite provides a unified dashboard for managing everything. Plus social trading via Ligent lets you trade from X, Farcaster, and Base App.

Q: What's the difference between UP/DOWN and YES/NO?

UP/DOWN terminology is used for price prediction markets that ask "Will Bitcoin price go UP or DOWN?" YES/NO terminology is used for event-based markets that ask "Will this event happen? YES or NO?" Both are binary outcomes with identical mechanics—the terminology just matches the market type being traded. Currently only UP/DOWN price markets are live, with YES/NO event markets coming soon.

Q: Do I need KYC?

No KYC is required. Simply connect your wallet and start trading immediately. The platform is truly permissionless with no identity verification at any point.

Q: Is it safe?

Yes, Libera is safe. It's non-custodial, meaning your keys control your funds at all times. Smart contracts are audited by leading security firms. Multiple oracle sources prevent manipulation. Open-source code allows community verification. Base provides Ethereum L2 security. All settlement happens on-chain with complete transparency.

Q: How are positions created?

Positions are minted on-demand when opposing orders match such that UP plus DOWN equals exactly $1.00. There's no fixed supply—positions are created dynamically as needed. Positions are burned when complementary positions are merged or closed.

Q: Can I exit before expiration?

Yes, you can trade freely anytime before settlement. Sell your positions to take profits early or cut losses if your thesis changes. This is a key advantage over traditional prediction markets where you're locked in until the event resolves.

Q: What's my maximum risk?

Your maximum risk equals your position size—nothing more. There are no liquidations like perpetuals, no funding rates eating into profits, and no margin calls forcing closures. If you buy $1,000 of UP positions, your maximum loss is exactly $1,000.

Q: What happens if price doesn't change?

If the price is exactly unchanged at settlement, it's a tie. All positions are refunded with no fees charged, not even the trading fees you paid on entry. Gas fees still apply for claiming your refund since it requires an on-chain transaction.

Q: What is Ligent?

Ligent is Libera's AI-powered trading agent. You can trade via X (Twitter), Farcaster, and Base App using simple likes and comments. Follow top traders automatically through copy trading. Get AI-powered trade suggestions based on your trading history and preferences.

Markets & Assets

Q: What can I trade?

Currently live: BTC, ETH, BNB, SOL & DOGE trade 24/7 with no market hours restrictions. Coming soon: Stocks will trade during market hours only. Precious metals including gold and silver will follow commodity trading sessions. Billionaire net worth markets based on Forbes and Bloomberg data. NFT floor prices will trade 24/7. Sports outcomes covering NBA, NFL, and soccer games.

Q: Which timeframe should I choose?

For beginners, start with Weekly or Monthly markets that offer better liquidity and lower volatility, giving you more time to learn. For active traders, Daily markets provide a balanced pace between opportunity and manageability. For scalpers, Hourly, 30-minute, or 15-minute markets offer high volatility and quick feedback but require intense focus and risk management.

Q: How much do I need to start?

For USDC trading capital, start with $100-$300 to get meaningful position sizes. For ETH gas fees, $1-$2 covers 15-20 transactions which is plenty to start. Beta limits restrict you to $10-$10,000 per market during the testing phase.

Fees & Payouts

Q: What are the fees?

Trading fees are 0.25% per transaction and go to liquidity providers maintaining the orderbook. Settlement fees are 1% on winnings only, not on losses, and go to the platform treasury. Tie fees are 0%—you get a full refund if price doesn't change. Gas fees range from $0.10-$0.50 per transaction and go to Base network validators.

Q: How much can I win?

Winning positions pay $0.99 per position after the 1% settlement fee. For example, if you buy 1,000 UP positions at 25¢ costing $250 and they win, you receive $990 payout resulting in $740 profit or 296% ROI.

Q: How much can I lose?

You can lose your full position size. It's a binary outcome: either win $0.99 per position or lose everything you invested in that position.

Liquidity & Slippage

Q: How do I avoid slippage?

Use limit orders instead of market orders to wait for your exact price. Use TWAP for large orders over $5k to break them into smaller pieces over time. Trade longer timeframes like weekly and monthly that have better liquidity. Check order book depth first to estimate slippage before executing.

Q: Can I provide liquidity?

No (for now)
